Duorama Magnum Illuminated Floor Globe

The ultimate testament to over 100 years of German globe manufacturing, the Magnum is simply one of the finest globes ever created. Made by Columbus Globes in Germany it incorporates beauty, design, style and detail perfectly.

The Magnum is huge, standing at 127cm tall and 97cm wide with a 77cm diameter globe ball though reading the specifications gives no impression of the immense presence of this hand-crafted item.

The stand is made from high-grade brushed steel, 100% made in Germany, with the total globe weighing 45kg. The base is thick and solid, making the 77cm globe ball perfectly solid and sturdy.

The item is illuminated via a cable that comes out of the base and not the southern hemisphere like most illuminated globes. This allows for endless rotation, both regular spinning and tilting to approximately 30 degrees upwards, without and complications with the cable. The illumination is a vibrant LED in order to perfectly display some of the world’s most magnificent globe cartography. The Magnum fills a room with vibrant colour.

The globe ball features the Duorama map type, famed for its beauty and enormous detail. Deserts, forests, mountains and underfloor information is visible as well as thousands of place names. The map is so large that every place name is easily readable.

Producing 1 Magnum globe takes a team of craftsman more than 40 hours. The map is printed in large strips called “gores”. It is then cut with laser guided precision before being hand-applied to the surface of the acrylic globe ball. This is an extraordinarily skilled process that requires huge amounts of training and experience.
